The World Trade Center site is on 16 acres. I would assume the 9/11 attacks encompasses not only those 16 acres but adjoining properties too. So my best guess would be the attacks probably covered around 20-25 plus acres.
By contrast the city limits of Winston-Salem, NC contains 132.4 square miles of land and water area. Roughly 84,500 acres are contained within the city limits. So only about 20 acres of the city's many thousands of acres would have been involved.
I think you may be referring to the downtown area of Winston-Salem possibly. Even then, if the downtown area were a half mile square, that would be 320 acres of area. Still, that's a small portion of the downtown area wherein 300 acres would remain unharmed.
